Home Remodel Projects 2006-2010
I realized the other day that I have not blogged about any of the home remodel projects we've done on our house the last few years. So I felt compelled to share with you all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into making this house our home. Let's begin.
When Ryan and I moved in to this house 4 1/2 years ago we really had our work cut out for us. This house had never been updated at all. It was build in 1981 and everything was original. So of course we wanted to update the house as much as possible. This was a challenge at first because when you want to remodel you need the right tools and those can be quite spendy. So we did a little here and a little there and now this house doesn't even look the same. Let me take you for a tour of the before and after pictures on some of the bigger projects we've accomplished.

Let's start with the atrocious popcorn ceilings. These were my least favorite project to attack. Normally you can spray the popcorn ceiling with water and scrap the crap into the garbage can. Well we didn't have that luxury. You see the ceilings had been painted at least 3 times. So we had to scrape yucky mucky painted ceilings which I'm sure you can imagine was no fun. It did give me a good work out and buff arms afterward. The picture below shows you just a little bit of what we did to every inch of ceiling in the house. Then we re-textured and painted. By doing this it made the ceiling feel higher. Much nicer in my opinion.

Here are the before pictures of my awesome kitchen. Yes there was carpet where our table will go and lovely linoleum floors in the cooking area of the kitchen.

We can't forget the very 80's flat paneled dark wood cabinets. They were so depressing. I needed more light refreshing tones in my kitchen and this just wasn't working for me. We also got all new appliances because the old ones were original too. Yikes. I wish I had pictures to show you. I couldn't wait to get them out of my house.

So I sanded, primed and painted my cabinets. Then added new hardware and paint and decor to the walls. and wallah! My fabulously friendly kitchen.

Take notice of the beautiful wood floor my hubby put in. Doesn't it look amazing. No more carpet for our boys to spill on. Yucky smashed food in the carpet is not my friend.

Next lets look at our radical retro bathroom. Don't you just love the brown shower? The toilet was the same color. Yikes I know! We once had a little girl who said she couldn't go in our bathroom because it was dark and scary. LOL! I'm so glad we remodel this bad boy. We stripped everything down to the beams and started from scratch. Totally worth it in my opinion.

20 inch deep soaker tub. The boys look like they are swimming when we bath them.

Well you can tell just how much work this project was. We had lots of help with the demolition from Ryan's parents. They were so great to come out and help us with this project. Ryan did all the tile work and everything else but I did the painting. I know I got the easy job.

It's small but it's mine all mine!

This picture shows you where our fireplace used to be. Ryan took it out because it was very dangerous with our little ones and wasn't to code. It was a zero fun project sir!

BEFORE OLD YUCKY CARPET
These next few pictures show you the before and after pictures of our new carpet. The old carpet was yucky and smelly and really needed to go. It looked clean, but it wasn't. I can't tell you how excited and happy it made me when we finally got brand new wonderful carpet.

AFTER NEW CARPET

These next pictures are of the house before my Dad and hubster put new moldings and casings up and new texture for the walls. They then primed and paint my entire house including all the doors. I love the end result and I hope you will too.

Primed

This picture is a little out of place since it's an after picture. But that's okay. I just wanted you to see how nice all the white casings and moldings look with the brown paint and new texture.

New tile my handy hubby put in. He did such a great job.

The after pictures of my living room are from Christmas. Sorry I haven't taken any new one yet.

I love the chair rail and the crown molding it adds so much elegance to the room.

Family room

This project was much bigger then I ever thought it would be. My parents came out for a few days and spent all their time remodeling my house. I can't thank them enough for this beautiful transformation. An especially big thanks to my daddy. I love you!
